ചിറകൊടിഞ്ഞുള്ളോരീ കാട്ടുപക്ഷി
മഴുതിന്ന മാമര കൊമ്പില്‍ തനിച്ചിരുന്നൊ-
ടിയാ ചിറകു ചെറുതിളക്കി
നോവുമെന്നോര്‍ത്തു പതുക്കെ അനങ്ങാതെ
പാവം പണിപ്പെട്ടു പാടിടുന്നു
ഇടരുമീ ഗാനമോന്നേറ്റു പാടാന്‍ കൂടെ
ഇണയില്ല കൂട്ടിനു കിളികളില്ല
പതിവുപോല്‍ കൊത്തി പിരിഞ്ഞുപോയ്‌
മേയ്‌ ചൂടില്‍ അടവെച്ചുയര്‍ത്തിയ കൊച്ചുമക്കള്‍
ആര്‍ക്കുമല്ലാതെ വെളിച്ചവും ഗാനവും
കാറ്റും മനസ്സില്‍ കുടിയിരുത്തി
വരവായോരന്തിയെ കണ്ണാല്‍ ഉഴിഞ്ഞു –
കൊണ്ടൊരു കൊച്ചു രാപ്പൂവുണര്‍ന്ന നേരം
ഒരു പാട്ടു കൂടി പതുക്കെ മൂളുന്നിതാ
ചിറകൊടിഞ്ഞുള്ളോരീ കാട്ടുപക്ഷി
ഇരുളില്‍ തിളങ്ങുമീ പാട്ടു കേള്‍ക്കാന്‍ കൂടെ
മരമുണ്ട് മഴയുണ്ട് കുളിരുമുണ്ട്
നിഴലുണ്ട് പുഴയുണ്ട് തലയാട്ടുവാന്‍ താഴെ
വഴിമര ചോട്ടിലെ പുല്ലുമുണ്ട്
ആരുമില്ലെങ്കിലെന്തായിരം കൊമ്പത്ത്
താരുകളുണ്ട് താരങ്ങളുണ്ട്
ആപാട്ടിലാഹ്ലാദ തേനുണ്ട് കനിവെഴും
സ്വപ്നങ്ങളുണ്ട് കണ്ണീരുമുണ്ട്
ഒരു പാട്ടു പിന്നെയും പാടവേ തന്‍ കൊച്ചു
ചിറകിന്റെ നോവ്‌ മറന്നു പോകെ
ഇനിയും പറക്കില്ല എന്നതോര്‍ക്കാതെയാ

About the poet of Oru Pattu Pinneyum – Sugathakumari Teacher
Sugathakumari, an Indian poet and activist who lived from 22 January 1934 to 23 December 2020, was a pioneer in the feminism and environmental movements in Kerala, South India. Her parents were the Sanskrit scholar V. K. Karthiyayini Amma and poet and independence warrior Bodheswaran. She served as the founding secretary of Abhaya, a refuge for abandoned women, and the Prakrithi Samrakshana Samithi, an organisation for the preservation of nature. She served as the commissioner for women in Kerala. She was heavily involved in the Save Silent Valley demonstration.
