അമ്മയെ കുളിപ്പിക്കുമ്പോൾ
കുഞ്ഞിനെ കുളിപ്പിക്കുമ്പോഴെന്ന പോലെ
കരുതൽ വേണം .
ഉടൽ കയ്യിൽ നിന്ന് വഴുതരുത്
ഇളം ചൂടായിരിക്കണം വെള്ളത്തിന് ,
കാലം നേർപ്പിച്ച
ആ ഉടൽ
കഠിന മണങ്ങൾ പരത്തുന്ന
സോപ്പു ലായനി കൊണ്ട് പതക്കരുത്,
കണ്ണുകൾ നീറ്റരുത്.
ഒരിക്കൽ
നിന്നെ കുളിപ്പിച്ചൊരു ക്കിയ
അമ്മയുടെ കൈകളിൽ
അന്ന് നീ കിലുക്കിക്കളിച്ച വളകൾ കാണില്ല
അവയുടെ ചിരിയൊച്ചയും
നിന്റെ ഇളം കടിയേറ്റ പഴയ മോതിരം
ആ വിരലിൽ നിന്ന് എന്നേ വീണുപോയിരിക്കും
എന്നാൽ
ഇപ്പോൾ അമ്മയുടെ കൈകളിലുണ്ട്
ചുളിവിന്റെ
എണ്ണമില്ലാത്ത ഞൊറി വളകൾ
ഓർമ്മകൾ കൊണ്ട് തിളങ്ങുന്നവ
ഏഴോ എഴുപതോ എഴായിരമോ
അതിൽ നിറഭേദങ്ങൾ?
എണ്ണാൻ മിനക്കെടേണ്ട
കണ്ണടച്ച്
ഇളം ചൂടു വെള്ളം വീണ്
പതു പതുത്ത ആ മൃദു ശരീരം
തൊട്ടു തലോടിയിരിക്കുക
അപ്പോൾ
ഓർമ്മകൾ തിങ്ങി ഞെരുങ്ങിയ
ആ ചുളിവുകൾ നിവർന്നു തുടങ്ങും
അമ്മ പതുക്കെ കൈകൾ നീട്ടി
നിന്നെ വീണ്ടും കുളിപ്പിച്ച് തുടങ്ങും
എണ്ണ യിലും താളിയിലും മുങ്ങി
നീ കുളിച്ചു സ്ഫുടമായി
തെളിഞ്ഞു വന്നു കൊണ്ടേയിരിക്കും
അപ്പോൾ
അമ്മ നിനക്ക് തന്ന ഉമ്മകളിലൊന്ന്
അമ്മക്ക് പകരം നൽകുക.

Savithri Rajeevan is an Indian painter, poet, and short story writer. She is one of Malayalam’s most prominent female authors, having produced four collections of poetry and a collection of short stories.
She was born in the Kerala district of Malappuram in 1956. She studied at the University of Baroda Faculty of Fine Arts after graduating with a degree in Malayalam literature from the University of Kerala. In 2009, she served on the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy’s jury. She has also served on the Kendra Sahitya Akademi’s Advisory Board and as Vice President of the Lalit Kala Akademi.
Her poems have been translated into a number of Indian languages, as well as Swedish and English. Since 1975, she has shared her home with writer B. Rajeevan.
